Silicon lenses are a type of soft contact lens that allow up to five times more oxygen to permeate the cornea than traditional hydrogel lenses. This allows patients to wear their contacts for longer periods of time without experiencing discomfort from dry eyes, and may even reduce the risk of eye infections. Silicone lenses are available in sphere shape to correct myopia (short-sightedness) and hyperopia (long-sightedness) as well as toric lenses to address astigmatism.
