The DNA testing process is comprised of four main steps, including extraction, quantitation, amplification, and capillary electrophoresis. DNA extraction is a method used to purify DNA by using physical/chemical methods from a sample separating DNA from cell membranes, proteins, and/or other cellular components. DNA can be used for molecular analyses including PCR, electrophoresis, sequencing, fingerprinting and cloning. It is a technique used to isolate DNA in a biological sample. The primary use of extractions is for DNA profiling of various organisms to better understand and/or to identify the unknown organism.
