The global Nematicides market value is expected to reach USD XX million by 2021 from USD 778.28 million in 2015, witnessing a market growth of CAGR 5.3% during 2016-2021 forecasted period. Nematicides are the pesticides used to protect plants from nematode infestation. Nematicides forms a very small but an important segment of crop protection chemicals. Major crops affected by nematode infestation are banana, potatoes, sugarcane, cotton. Citrus, tomato, maize and peanuts among others.

While the prevalence of chemical or synthetic nematicides in crop protection would continue, human, animal and environmental health concerns would play key roles in driving growth for bio-based nematicides. Although, the synthetic nematicides are witnessing the sluggish growth, the high demand of bio-based nematicides are driving the market growth. Other factors stimulating the growth of the market includes growing food demand and shrinking farm land. Strict government regulation on pesticides residues on crops, banning of various pesticides along with the high product development and registration cost are the factors restraining the market growth.

The market is segmented by product type into fumigant, organophosphate, carbamate and bio-based nematicides. Fumigants forms the largest market segment with nearly 45% of the market share followed by carbamates, organophosphates and bio-based nematicides. By application market is further divided into crop-based and non-crop based nematicides. Crop based nematicides are further sub-segmented into grains and cereals, oil seeds and fruit & vegetables and, non-crop based nematicides into turf and ornamentals and other non-crop based nematicides. Fruits and vegetable are the largest nematicides consuming category and, banana and potato tops the nematicides consumption among the sub-segment.

Asia-Pacific region, the largest producer of fruits and vegetables, will witness the fastest market growth. Currently, North America and Europe are the largest nematicides market with more than 60% of the market share. Pesticides bans and market saturation will limit the market expansion in Europe and North American region.

Many nematicidal products are getting discontinued and are under review and hence the bio-based nematicides are the need of the hour. Looking at the market demand, global agrochemical leader have started investing in development of bio-based nematicidal products.
