VCSEL is a specialized laser diode that can transmit data at high speeds over short distances through optical networks. These devices are being increasingly preferred over edge-emitting lasers (EEL) due to their lower cost of manufacturing, high optical efficiency, and significantly higher data rates in short range optical communication.
