"yStats.com's new report: mobile apps increase online booking of air travel."

Germany-based online business research firm yStats.com's new report, “Global Online Airline Booking Market 2018” informs on the current sales levels, growth projections and trends for the online air travel market. Among the findings of the report is the expectation of continued global movement to online booking of airline tickets.

  • Air travelers booking online have a choice to purchase through an Online Travel

Agency or directly with the airline. Research included in the new yStats.com report project that the share of air travel booked directly with the airlines will grow to over half within the next 3 years, as the airlines employ technologies such as AI and data analytics to improve the online purchase experience for their customers.

Mobile apps foster sales of flight tickets

The increase of reservation sales through mobile devices will also play a role in airlines increasing direct channel share of online bookings of air travel. Airlines, especially the large carriers in the USA, the world's largest online air travel market, have improved their mobile apps and US travelers increasingly research and purchase air travel through those apps. Travelers in China, with the second largest volume of online air travel sales, prefer to use the websites and apps of OTAs, as part of the worldwide trend toward mobile purchase of airline tickets. The yStats.com report reveals that a double-digit share of travelers globally have one or more airline apps on their smartphone.
