High-performance pigments are those that impart extra performance to the end-product in which they are formulated; either through higher levels of exterior durability and colour fastness, better thermal stability or heat resistance, creation of special decorative effects, or interactivity with the environment. They can be organic or inorganic colour pigments, metallic or pearlescent pigments, or interactive pigments such as fluorescent, thermochromic or photochromic.

With a forecast growth of 3.3% CAGR in volume from 2020 to 2025, the demand for high-performance pigments will be 255,770 tonnes by the end of this period, the value recovering to $7.58 billion after the initial shock of the Covid-19 pandemic.
