Activated carbon fiber is commonly produced from carbon fiber, by the pyrolysis of carbonaceous materials, like polyacrylonitrile (PAN), coal tar pitch and petrol pitch, rayon (majorly viscose), and biomass (primarily jute, coconut fiber, oil palm, cellulose), among others.
