A molecular biosensor is a device that uses specific biochemical reactions mediated by isolated enzymes, immunosystems, tissues, organelles or whole cells to detect chemical compounds usually by electrical, thermal or optical signals. Molecular biosensors are, thus, able to facilitate rapid detection and diagnosis at the POC, which make them particularly useful for an early and unequivocal diagnosis, and to prevent further disease spread
In recent years, due to ti increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, demand for point-of-care diagnostics has increased. This has led to an increase in demand for molecular biosensors. The factors have resulted in increased adoption of the molecular biosensor, which has helped the market growth.
However, high costs involved in research and development and strict regulatory guidelines to by authorities dissuade many manufacturers to enter the market. This has hindered the growth rate of the market.
Electrochemical Biosensors is Expected to Dominate the Market
Electrochemical biosensors have emerged as reliable molecular sensing devices suitable for the detection of pathogens in liquid biopsies. Short assay time, simple handling, low cost, small sample requirement, the ibility of multiplexing and miniaturization and good performance in complex samples with minimal pre-treatments justify their increasing growing and suitability for POC applications. These biosensors are able to facilitate rapid detection and diagnosis at the POC, which make them particularly useful for an early and unequivocal diagnosis, and to prevent further disease spread.
Pathogens are microorganisms that cause infectious disease. Bacteria and viruses are the main pathogens. Bacteria release toxins, and viruses damage cells. White blood cells destroy pathogens by ingestion or producing antibodies against them and antitoxins to neutralize toxins. Recently, due to unhealthy living conditions, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries, the incidence of bacterial infection has increased. Even in developed countries like the United States, the incidence of campylobacter gram-negative bacteria infection increased from 12.82 in 2004 to 12.97 in 2009 to 13.29 in 2014, according to a 2016 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Hence with increase in infection from pathogens, the demand for fast PoC diagnostics like electrochemical biosensors is expected to increase
North America is Expected to Dominate the Market

These policies encourage global players to enter the US and Canada. As a result, these countries enjoy the presence of many global market players.
