A disconnect switch, or isolator switch, refers to a component of the electric circuit used for interrupting the flow of electrical current. It trips the flow of power, enables emergency shutdowns and facilitates switching to alternate sources of power. The switch consists of an enclosure, wired electrical contacts and actuator. The enclosure protects the contents from environmental hazards prevents the users from getting exposed to the live circuits. The handle and knobs are used for engaging or disengaging the contents without opening the enclosure. These switches are commonly available in the form of fusible and non-fusible variants and are used to de-energize a circuit, thereby providing a visual opening so that the circuit can be safely maintained, tested or repaired.
