This IDC study provides historical data (2016-2019) and a forecast data (2020-2024) for the worldwide and U.S. enterprise storage systems markets. The forecast represents annual view of the quarterly forecast released in December 2020 in IDC's 3Q20 Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker. The forecast and historical data focuses on end-user consumption of three categories of enterprise storage systems - external OEM, internal OEM, and "other," which covers cumulative shipments of systems sold directly to customers by original design manufacturers (ODMs). For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending), terabytes, and price per gigabyte."As any other major crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic has a noticeable impact on the enterprise storage systems market," says Natalya Yezhkova, research vice president, Infrastructure Systems, Technology and Platforms. "At the same time, business and society dependency on technology mitigated the worst impact as demand for storing, managing, analyzing, and delivering digital information only increases. As many other areas, the storage systems industry is impacted more by how storage resources are consumed and delivered as move toward service delivery models increases."
