This IDC Market Perspective provides a snapshot of the types of services and capabilities that managed service providers (SPs) and outsourcers are deploying in response to COVID-19 to support enterprises as they look to navigate a very difficult time."COVID-19, a truly unfortunate situation that brings with it extreme societal hardships and sorrow for many people, appears to be the final catalyst that is placing cloud- and platform-based models of service delivery at center stage of how customers want to consume what traditionally have been referred to as 'managed' services, but increasingly are called just cloud services, ultimately a type of utility service similar to power and communications," says David Tapper, VP, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services at IDC. "Supporting customers through these times of uncertainty and chaos will require that managed SPs (outsourcers) focus on helping enterprises meet cash flow needs and achieving rapid ROI, invest more aggressively in using cloud-based and platform provider models, automate everything across the entire value chain of services, expand and deepen partnerships with platform providers (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and BPaaS), and invest more heavily in advanced technologies such as cognitive/AI and quantum and edge computing."
