This IDC study, written for CIOs and senior IT executives, examines the strategies an organization should consider when managing the flow of corporate information across users' mobile devices. Companies have witnessed a shift from tightly controlled information management to new levels of free-flowing information. That shift has been more than a decade in the making, but it has largely accelerated in recent years because of two key 3rd Platform technologies: mobile and cloud. As in all efforts related to governance, security, and compliance, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to managing information flow. And that reality has gotten more pronounced given that multiple platforms now involved in accessing and working on corporate information and given that the access is often done outside IT-managed networks and on non-managed or partially managed devices. This study offers effective, established strategies to address these issues."In many cases, IT will have to favor specific platforms, vendors, and applications based on the combination that best supports each of the classes in its information flow strategy," says Galen Gruman, adjunct analyst, IDC's IT Executive Program (IEP). "The lower the classification level, the broader the set of devices, applications, and services for which the appropriate technology is available."
