This IDC update provides information about the 10 key metrics that organizations should consider when narrowing down their options on where to build a new datacenter or whether or not to expand or relocate an existing datacenter. The 10 key metrics presented in this document are broken down to provide insight into how each metric can impact an individual organization's strategic datacenter build planning. IDC takes no position as to which metric has greater or lesser importance in the decision-making process: every datacenter - and every organization - has different requirements and needs. Only the reader can determine which metrics are most critical for his/her requirements.The goal of this update is to provide the reader with information he/she can use to figure out which metrics are more important to his/her organization and which are less important. This document should serve as a starting point, not an end-to-end guide, to key considerations organizations should keep in mind in evaluating where best to site datacenter builds. It should be used as one item in an overall toolbox for assessing and evaluating different options and an organization's priorities.
