This IDC study examines the status of and plans for cloud adoption among Western European enterprises, based on the cloud section of IDC's European Enterprise Services Survey, 2015. It is part of a series of reports examining different aspects of European organizations' IT services investment plans, buying behavior, and satisfaction with IT services and their vendors.

The findings reveal a varying degree of cloud maturity and implementation among various territories, verticals, and organization sizes. While some firms have already rolled out cloud consistently and effectively, others are only beginning to do so at an incremental pace. Companies that are facing financial problems, particularly those in countries that have recently stepped out a financial crisis, are enthusiastically embracing the cloud in the hopes of achieving efficiency savings.

"Cloud is already the infrastructure of choice to underpin new product and service developments," said Jamie Snowdon, research director, IDC European Service. "The next stage in cloud maturity is the wider use of cloud as an integral part of enterprises' core infrastructure. Almost half of European organizations look at the refresh of software, service, or hardware as an opportunity to move to the cloud."
