This IDC Perspective identifies what the new payer environment around consent is and why payers need to rethink their approaches to multiple technologies."Data sharing consent exists in a contradictory relationship between a member's desire for data privacy control versus the necessity for connected, collaborative, and convenient medical services using comprehensive data. Controls on fluid and ethical data sharing are stressed when more players collaborate more often, therefore consent technology will be reinvented over the next 18 months to provide payers and members with confidence that 'their data' is not used inappropriately," says Jeff Rivkin, research director for IDC Health Insights. "Reconciling federal and state controls with consumer demands for transparency is the payer challenge of the next decade in a reinvented 'Consent 2.0' paradigm."
