Biodigester is used to completely degrade human faecal, agricultural waste, animal waste and other waste matter and converts it into reusable water and biogas. The biodigester provides long-term protection against corrosion under insulation (CUI) due to its properties including low thermal conductivity which helps to minimize energy losses, high flexibility and easy & quick to install particularly on irregular shapes with installations in tight spaces. The biodigester has two types aerobic and anaerobic digestion technology. In both the technology bacterial microbes in the biodigester tank feast waste food, manure and it gets converted into clean energy that again connected with electrical grid. It is the most economical and environmentally sustainable technology which can convert 50 tons of organic waste to 12,000 kWh of renewable electricity each day with the help of generators.
The biodigester can also produce biogas such as methane, nitrogen etc which can reduce the green house emission by 13,500 tons per year. The biogas can create 5.6 million kWh per year clean electricity. The global biodigester market valued USD XX million in 2019 and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% to reach USD XX million by 2027.
The market is driven by the rising demand for biodigesters for sustainable and affordable domestic energy requirement. Further several government countries are conducting programs and providing subsidy to implement biodigesters has increased demand for this market. For instance in Africa, Government began the Africa Biogas Partnership Programme to support the installation of more than 60,000 digesters in five African countries in this region. As per the World Biogas Organization in 2018, Africa has around 32.9 million biodigester followed by 800,000 biodigesters in 2019 from 8 Asian countries.
Further rising the awareness about waste to energy management among the people with growing development of compact size biodigesters by the leading players have created huge demand for this market. For instance on 1st May 2017, DVO launched two stage linear Vortex Anaerobic Digester with capacity of collecting 4,300 wet cow equivalents of manure. It has patented mixed plug flow digester with a scrape, flush-flume system prior to digester.
The global biodigester market is segmented based on type, product, method, application, end-user, and region.
In terms of type the global biodigester market is bifurcated into horizontal plants, earth-pit plants, fixed dome biogas plants, polyethylene tube digester, floating drum plants, ferro-cement plants, and balloon plants. Among these, fixed dome biogas plants segment has the highest market share in 2019 owing to increasing demand for electricity generation due to growing investment and support by the government. For instance
For instance on 13th March 2019, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have developed anaerobic microbial technology for converting human faecal matter into biogas and reusable water. This biodigester technology is fixed type which uses contaminated open wells for biogas generation.
Similarly, horizontal plants, earth-pit plants, polyethylene tube digester, floating drum plants, ferro-cement plants, and balloon plants segments are also growing at faster pace owing to raising the global demand of electricity and biogas for the sustainable development. According to the IRENA in 2017, globally there were around 132,000 large, medium and small digester operated. It contains different types of biodigesters with varying capacities.
Depending on the product, global biodigester market is divided into aerobic digester, anaerobic digester, manure digester and others. Among this, Anaerobic digester, segment has the highest market share in 2019 this is due to it has high capacity to generate biogas and ultimately electricity. As per the IRENA, global electricity generation from biogas production increased to around 87,500 GWh in 2016. This is primarily due to highest utilization of anaerobic biodigester around the globe.
Similarly, aerobic digester and manure digester segments are also growing with increasing energy and biogas plant implementation around the globe.
On the basis of method, the global biodigester market is divided into dry fermentation and wet fermentation. Among this wet fermentation has the highest utilization owing to rising utilization for the electricity generation by the agricultural sector.
Similarly, dry fermentation segment is also growing at fastest pace owing to increasing demand for the biofuels, and biofertilizers around the globe.
Depending upon the application, the global biodigester market is segmented into biogas formation, electricity generation, biofertilizers and others. Among this biogas formation segment has the highest market share in 2019, this is primarily due rising the government support to build environment friendly plants to combat the climate change and pollution control norms.
Similarly, electricity generation, biofertilizers segments are also growing with growing population demand for the renewable resources around the globe.
Depending upon the end-user, the global biodigester market is divided into commercial, household/domestic, on-site industrial, waste water, agricultural, municipal and others. Among this on-site industrial segment has the highest market share for the biodigester market in 2019, this is primarily due to rising awareness about the biofuels production, utilization for the sustainable development.
Similarly, household/domestic, waste water, agricultural, municipal segments are also growing at faster pace owing to increasing the usage of compact size biodigester for the household cooking purposes.
By region, the global Biodigester market is segmented into North America, South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle-East, and Africa. Among all of the regions, Asia-Pacific is the dominated region for the global biodigester market and expected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecasted period due to growing the utilization of biodigester for producing electrical energy and biogas production due to rising the government support and facilities with growing population demand for the biodigester followed by North America region. In Asia Pacific there is presence of large agricultural sector which requires waste management and energy security. According to the World Biogas Association in 2017, there were around 50 million micro-scale bio digesters globally among which 42 million in China and another 4.9 million in India.
North America is also growing at faster pace for the biodigester market owing to increasing energy demand with rising consumers awareness about the environmental protection, pollution control and climate change norms. Similarly, Europe is also growing at faster pace for the biodigester market owing to increase in the demand for the renewable energy. According to World Biogas Association in 2017, European countries have more than 17,783 plants with total electricity generation capacity of around 10.5 GW). Further in Europe Germany is the leader in the European market which has 10,971 biogas plants followed by France (742), Switzerland (632), Italy (1,655), and the UK (613).
