Organo-functional silanes are essential components in adhesive and sealant formulations based on silane-modified polymers (SMP). These silanes are hybrid compounds which combine the functionality of a reactive organic group in a single molecule with the inorganic functionality of an alcoxysilane. This unique property ensures that they can be used as molecular bridges between organic and inorganic polymers.

The production and growing use of organic functional silanes has closely coincided with the use of composite materials in widespread and diverse applications.
