Market Overview

The global vascular imaging market size was valued at US$ XX million in 2021 and is estimated to reach US$ XX million by 2029, growing at a CAGR of XX % during the forecast period (2022-2029).

Vascular imaging is used to assess blood vessels and diagnose conditions caused by abnormal blood flow. Vascular ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging are all methods for creating images of blood vessels (MRI).

Market Dynamics

The factors influencing the global vascular imaging market are the increasing demand for vascular imaging and technological advancements.

The increasing demand for vascular imaging is expected to drive market growth in the forecast period

Vascular studies measure the amount of blood flow in blood vessels using high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound). The skin is probed with a small handheld probe (transducer). Sound waves travel through the skin and other body tissues to reach blood vessels. The sound waves reverberate off the blood cells. These echoes are then sent to a computer and displayed as images or video on a screen. Vascular imaging can be used to help diagnose a variety of blood flow-related conditions, such as atherosclerosis, aneurysms, inflammatory conditions, varicose veins, and blood clots. There are two types of vascular imaging invasive and non-invasive. For instance, noninvasive vascular imaging allows physicians to use imaging technology to diagnose and assess diseases and conditions in the blood vessels. Noninvasive vascular imaging allows the doctor to see inside blood vessels, evaluate blood flow, and pinpoint areas where blood circulation is slowed or stopped. The procedures are noninvasive because they employ equipment that takes photographs from the outer body. Vascular ultrasound is a noninvasive technique (also known as a duplex study) used to examine the arms and legs of blood circulation.

Limitations associated with vascular imaging is expected to hamper the market growth

Deep vessels in the body are more difficult to see than superficial vessels. Specialized equipment or other tests such as CT or MRI may be required to visualize them properly. Smaller vessels are difficult to image and assess than larger ones. Calcifications caused by atherosclerosis may obstruct the ultrasound beam. The test is specialized and should only be performed by a vascular ultrasound imaging technologist and physician. Despite its advantages, vascular ultrasound has some limitations. Smaller and deeper vessels with vascular ultrasound can be more difficult to evaluate and image. Ultrasound cannot distinguish between an occluded blood vessel and one significantly narrowed in some cases. Calcifications may also obstruct the ultrasound beam. Other imaging tests, such as Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) or CT Angiogram, may be required in these cases.

COVID-19 Impact Analysis

The pandemic coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) significantly impacted all imaging practices across the country. Independent of COVID-19, policy measures enacted to slow disease transmission are lowering demand for imaging. Hospital preparations to increase crisis capacity further reduce the amount of appropriate medical imaging performed safely. Although economic recessions generally result in lower healthcare expenditures, imaging groups have never experienced an economic shock exacerbated by the need to limit imaging availability. These changes will greatly impact outpatient practices, but imaging volumes will decrease. According to studies, radiology practices should expect 50-70% decreases in imaging volume that will last at least 3-4 months, depending on the location of practice and the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic in each region. Hence, due to the impact of covid-19, the global vascular imaging market impacted negatively.

Segment Analysis

Based on type, the non-invasive segment is expected to dominate the market growth

A common imaging exam is non-invasive vascular imaging. It enables a doctor to assess the condition of blood vessels from the outside of the body. This entails employing several technologies, such as CT, MRI, ultrasound, vascular ultrasound. A contrast dye may be administered via a traditional IV (intravenous) line for CT and MRI exams. No catheters or other devices are inserted into the body because these studies are 'non-invasive.' These exams are performed in one of the hospital's radiology departments or a lab. A technologist typically performs the exam, and the results are interpreted and shared with a doctor by a radiologist. These minimally invasive imaging techniques are painless and relatively safe may eliminate the need for catheter-directed invasive procedures, allowing patients to leave the hospital immediately after the scan is completed.

Non-invasive vascular tests come in various forms, including a carotid ultrasound that measures arterial blood flow to the brain via the carotid arteries. An abdominal aortic ultrasound measures the size of the aorta, the major blood vessel that transports blood from the heart to the rest of the body (aorta). A venous ultrasound examines the circulation in the veins of the arms and legs, most commonly looking for blood clots. A lower extremity arterial evaluation (also known as ankle-brachial testing or pulse volume recording test) looks at the arterial blood flow to the lower body and legs. If an activity causes leg pain relieved by rest, this procedure may be ordered.

Geographical Analysis

North America region is expected to hold the largest market share in the global vascular imaging market

The presence of major players, reimbursement policies, rising stroke incidence, and prevalence of cardiovascular disorders are expected to drive growth in this region. According to the American Heart Association's 2019 heart disease and stroke statistics, an American has a stroke every 40 seconds, and approximately 795,000 Americans have a new or recurring stroke each year.

Moreover, Abbott Laboratories, a multinational American medical device and healthcare company, Abbott's OPTIS Imaging Systems, combines high-resolution OCT intravascular imaging and coronary physiology (RFR*/FFR) on a single platform to help guide PCI (Percutaneous coronary intervention) decisions. Hence, major key players in this region are expected to drive market growth.
