Semiochemicals are natural chemicals involved in the biological communications between individuals of species. Semiochemicals are subdivided into allelochemicals and pheromones. Semiochemicals communications between interspecific species are called allelochemicals and that between intraspecific species are called pheromones. These chemicals are mainly used in pest control. Semiochemicals are mainly species-specific and undamaging to the environment. These advantages over conventional harmful insect pest control agents create a promising opportunity for semiochemicals products in the management of agricultural pests specifically under organic cropping systems.

On the basis of pest control technique, the global semiochemicals market is divided into attract & kill, mating disruption, mass trapping, and repellents. Mass trapping is dominating in the Pest Control Technique segments due to the easy availability of female sex pheromones. The mating disruption technique is growing at the highest rate. In mating disruption technology, sex pheromones of Lepidopteran pests are mainly used to control the pests. Codling Moth and grape moth pests are the most important species, where the technique has effectively worked successfully on a commercial scale.

On June 1, 2021, Corteva Agriscience and Elemental Enzymes, a life sciences company that develops novel biotechnology and enzymes solutions, declared a multi-year global agreement around a unique abiotic stress mitigation technology. This agreement will further expands Corteva Agriscience's biological portfolio of proven biostimulant, biocontrol and pheromone solutions
