本報告,針對全球農業市場的展望,以區域別、產品別進行分析並彙整,由下列摘要形式闡述。
World grain trade has increased substantially over the last decade, even with the recent spike in world prices. A decade ago world grain trade totaled about 230 million tonnes compared to a little more than 300 million tonnes last year and this year. That is an increase of more than 30 percent over the decade. Japan is still the world's largest market, importing more than 25 million tonnes of grain or about 8 percent of the total.
Growth in world grain trade stands in stark contrast to the big drop in U.S. grain exports. U.S. exports this season are expected to total about 54 million tonnes, down more than 30 percent from the average level of a decade ago. The 2011 and 2012 droughts have impacted U.S. grain prices and exports, but there are few signs that the high prices have dampened overall grain demand.
So, the logical question is - what countries have filled the gap left by declining U.S. exports and the additional growth that has occurred in recent years?
