Main results of our research work in this field are presented yearly at the CSIL Seminar World Furniture Outlook, a unique occasion to gather comments on the key facts regarding production, consumption and trade of furniture on a global scale with a forward looking approach.
The last edition of this event took place on April 10th 2019, at the Milano-Rho fair Congress Centre, during the Salone del Mobile, one of the most important international furniture exhibitions.
International trade of furniture was worth US$ 150 billion. The leading importers on a global level are the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
The year 2019 was marked by trade tensions between the US and China, the first importer and exporter of furniture respectively, with negative effects on the business climate. In 2020 the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has essentially halted international travel and disrupted global value chains, resulting in a sharp contraction in global trade. A resumption of growth is expected in 2021.
