Contract market segments

The contract lighting market is estimated to be worth over USD 17.2 billion in the year 2019. This segment has been evolving at a slightly faster pace compared to other lighting businesses and by 2020 it is expected to account for over 18% of the total lighting market.

The contract business is pushed from many drivers. As LED technology is now a requirement form most project, the new challenges and opportunities faced by the lighting designer lie in the controls, IoT and related technologies change, meaning that lighting systems are no longer simply about illumination.

In this segment, some 1,600 architectural practices and lighting designers play a relevant role as key influencers. Their aggregated turnover is almost USD 1.7 billion. Most of practices are small in size and their revenue per head amounts to over USD 100,000 per employees.
