Glass is widely preferred and used as a packaging material globally. Glass is made from all-natural sustainable raw materials and are widely used as a packaging material by end-users concerned about their health and the environment. Consumers prefer glass packaging for preserving a product's taste or flavor and maintaining the integrity or healthiness of foods and beverages due to its nonporous & impermeable nature, and also it has zero rate of chemical interactions. Glass is the only widely-used packaging material considered "GRAS" or generally recognized as "SAFE" by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is also 100% recyclable and can be reused endlessly with no loss in quality or purity. Also, the 80% of the glass that is recovered can be made into new glass products as well. Glass is made from sustainable raw materials such as silica, limestone, soda, and others. These type of raw materials are used to manufacture different types of glass, namely, type I glass, type II glass, type III glass, and type IV glass. Type I glass products are majorly made from borosilicate, which has high resistant composition and releases the least amount of alkali. It is commonly used for pharmaceutical or fine chemical products that are sensitive to PH changes. Type III glass products are made from untreated commercial soda lime glass and has low chemical resistance as compared to type I glass. These type III glass products are widely used in food, beverages, and some common chemicals applications. Type II and type IV glass products are made from treated soda lime glass and are rarely used as a packaging material.

The glass products are widely used to consume alcoholic beverages (except beer), beer, and food items & soft beverages.
