Headlines

Facing with increasingly stringent environmental standards, high production costs and other factors, China's pentaerythritol industry is still in tough situation. In 2019, there were ten producers of pentaerythritol in China, among which, Hubei Yihua Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Hubei Yihua) and Chifeng Ruiyang Chemical Co., Ltd. (Chifeng Ruiyang) were two leading pentaerythritol producers in domestic market. Baoding Guoxiu Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. was in suspension because it had been required to relocate to industrial park. Most specifications of pentaerythritol were in normal sale this year, but 95% pentaerythritol was in tight supply.

The product structure of pentaerythritol is improving continuously, and manufacturers are gradually turning to better quality pentaerythritol; besides, the pentaerythritol output is expected to decrease slowly.

In China, pentaerythritol is mainly consumed in the production of alkyd resin, polyurethane (PU), synthetic lubricant, rosin pentaerythritol ester. In 2019, pentaerythritol consumption in the key downstream sector alkyd resin was 70,200 tonnes. It is estimated that the demand from alkyd resin will decrease slowly in the future.
