This report provides an in-depth analysis of the Malaysian bathroom market including the monitoring of recent trend patterns and demand drivers, plus substantiated volume forecasts for the next 5 years. The Malaysian economy witnessed a robust economic growth of around 4.3% for the year 2019 (IMF). This is lower than the 4.8% GDP growth seen in 2018. With the increasing recessionary risks in Asia, Malaysia has seen a decline in private investments. The services and manufacturing sectors continued as the main contributing sectors to the Malaysian economy in 2019.

2019 witnessed a sluggish market for overall bath products in Malaysia with the exception of synthetic bath markets which exhibited a marginal growth in comparison to the previous year. The decline was mainly attributed to a slump in the new housing as well as the commercial construction sectors during the year. Consequently, the demand was majorly driven by replacement, from both, housing and commercial sectors. Sales of sanitary ware products remained driven by demand for WCs, followed by washbasins, the combined sales of which accounting for about three quarters of the overall market in 2019. Sales of one-piece toilet bowls accounted for the largest share among all WCs sold in 2019, followed by the two-piece variety. According to the IMF, the country's GDP had fallen down to -6% by October 2020, signalling a turnaround from the global pandemic's business-crippling effects. The country's GDP plunged in the first two quarters, largely due to restrictions on movement to the avoid the spread of Covid-19. However, third quarter improvements were registered across major sectors including manufacturing, services, mining and construction. The Malaysian bathroom market is expected to witnessed positive activity from the third quarter of 2020 as the many projects started again after the lockdown because of global pandemic Covid-19.
