This report provides an in-depth analysis of the Thai heating market including the monitoring of recent trend patterns and demand drivers, plus substantiated volume forecasts for the next 5 years.
Thailand's economic growth slowed to 2.4% in 2019 from a healthy 4.2% the previous year due to a number of domestic and external factors. Declines in exports and growing weakness in domestic demand were the key factors for the slowdown.
Unusually hot weather throughout the year coupled with slow construction growth and a weaker economy resulted in a rather subdued electric water heater market for 2019. The market for both electric instantaneous and storage water heaters grew at a more sluggish pace than the previous year. During 2019, a decline was also observed in sales of thermosyphon tanks in comparison to 2018. The solar thermal market in Thailand has been stuttering and faced issues over the years due to high installation costs and lack of government support.
The Thai solar thermal market continued to witness a decline in 2019. Sales to the non-housing segment, which account for the majority of collector installations, continued to go down. Sales to the residential sector also continued to remain low as high cost of installation and low cost effectiveness for smaller households has been a major deterrent to installations.
Contrary to the overall industrial trend for Thailand in during 2019, the market for air conditioners did well during the year. It has been one of the very few electronic items which has exhibited robust positive growth in 2019 after two consecutive years of decline. Good growth was seen in both the RAC and the commercial market. Public construction and government projects offered good opportunities for commercial AC manufacturers.
