BMI View:

The trade outlook for China remains positive with strong export and import growth slated to drive economic momentum over the next five years. Rising levels of domestic demand will be further bolstered by domestic income trends as middle-class consumer begin to support higher economic activity. Strong positive upside risks to the freight and logistics sector come from the massive investment projects at home and abroad as part of the One Belt, One Road initiative and the landmark 13th Five Year Plan (2016-2020), that will diversify the economy and support national transportation and logistics. Negative risks emanate from a potential trade war that looms in the background with Washington D.C., as President Donald Trump continues to pressure China into addressing the large trade imbalance.
