China is one of the largest beer markets in the world, having an annual consumption of over 45 billion liters. This is nearly five times as much as what Germany consumes, which is the largest beer market in Europe, and twice as much as the United States alone. Beer accounts for nearly 75 percent of the total global alcohol consumption in terms of volume.

The Chinese beer market has been growing rapidly over the years, even though during the last couple of years, the volume of the overall beer sector has decreased. This decrease in total market volume is contributed to an overall reduction in production and consumption of the domestic mass-consumed beer sector.

However, the market volume is also expected to pick up in the coming years as premium and craft beer makes their mark on the beer market in China.
