Amorphous polyalphaolefin (APAO) is manufactured through polymerization of ethylene or other polymers. Fractional distillation, hydrogenation, co-polymerization, and polymerization are different techniques that are used for formulation of APAO.

Growth of the global amorphous polyalphaolefin market is attributed to rise in use of APAO for formulation of adhesives. Pressure sensitive and structural adhesives are types of adhesives that use APAO for manufacturing. Pressure sensitive adhesives act as catalysts for the packaging industry as it offers several benefits such as less retention time and no physical transformation or chemical reaction, which saves time and increases productivity. In addition, APAOs are proven to improve food packaging, which helps to keep packed items fresh for a long period.
