本報告以Telco (通訊業者) 網域與網站規模網域趨勢為研究主題，提供發展方法，優點，功能等系統性資訊。
Edge computing is set to redefine the way networks are being deployed and applications utilized, while several industry executives go as far as to state that edge computing is the next step of evolution after cloud computing. Both telecoms and Web-scale value chains are discussing how applications deployed at the edge of their networks will create new revenue opportunities, enhance the user experience, and reduce operating costs. It is no wonder edge computing is a key element of 5G networks and the key component of delivering low latency services.
Telcos and Web-scale companies have very different definitions for the edge of their respective networks and every more distinct deployment priorities and business drivers. The edge of the telco network is usually the cellular base station or the customer premise equipment, thus reaching very near end users. On the other hand, Web-scale companies define their edge as nationwide points of presence. Regardless of their differences, edge computing redefines the value of the last mile of connectivity, something Web-scale companies have very limited - or no - access to.
This presentation outlines the dynamics in the telco and Webscale domains and outlines how each party aims to deploy and take advantage of edge computing to improve user experience and enter new domains, predominantly in the world of IoT. Telcos will be able to understand what new functionality may be unlocked from edge computing while the whole value chain will gain insight into the new way of deploying networks.
