This market forecast dataset is a combination of data derived from ABI Research's cellular subscriber tracker (MD-SUB-128) and a register of announced LPWA networks, which are either under trail, planned, or in commercial operations. The dataset is presented in two sections.

The LPWAN tracker contains collected information from public sources on announced, trial, or commercial networks for the main LPWA technologies including Cat-1, Cat-M1, NB-IoT, EC-GSM-IoT, SIGFOX, RPMA, LoRa, and TelensaUNB. The data is presented by region (North America, Asia-Pacific, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America) and lists the operator, country, LPWA technology, network size, platform, whether the network is public or private, and whether the network is commercial or in trail/planning.

The 2G/3G cellular network subscriber attrition data shows which networks, technologies, and operators are planning to sunset or are at risk of network shut down, or "twilighting". Network sunsets are tracked from publicly announced information and a date provided where available. We defined twilighting networks as those networks which exhibit two or more consecutive years of double-digit declines in subscribers. The year on year (YoY) subscriber growth or decline is presented for a selected group of operators in each region. There are many reasons for switching off a network and for declining subscribers but in some cases, the sunset of 2G or 3G networks offers an opportunity to substitute licensed M2M technologies with proprietary LPWA technologies.
