  • Global demand for milk drinks increased during the review period, particularly in the emerging markets such as Asia & Australasia, but has slowed somewhat in the more developed countries due to competition from other soft drink alternatives.
  • The research found that consumer demand for fluid milk has been low in the majority of regions and milk producers have tried to halt the decline by adding functionality and promoting health benefits of their products.
  • Conversely, the flavoured milk demand is increasing with growth of around 2% in West Europe to 10% in South America. With per capita consumption rarely above 2 litres, there are further opportunities for development.
