The interest on energy storage system (ESS) is increasing worldwide. The demand on ESS occurs globally in diverse ways: as a method to decrease the electric charges of the consumers, to regulate frequencies, as ancillary services of electric generation, for electric stability, and as a complement to the increasing renewable energy. It is possible to gain huge economic effect, in comparison to the existing generator, when the advantages of ESS, such as reactivity, independence, and management flexibility are utilized. Therefore, leading countries and enterprises of the world are hot-eyed to develop a business model that will make good use of the merits of the ESS.

It is possible to categorize the business models of ESS by its purpose: Demand Response, Ancillary Service, and Renewable Energy Integration.

SNE Research accumulated the insights on the optimal designing method by each business model, and has conducted an economic analysis on the designed system.
