Abstract
Introduction
The stock market decline has had a major impact on the savings and investments
culture across Europe - leading to falls in direct investment in equity and
mutual funds, rise in deposits, and emergence of guaranteed products. This
report details the market from the perspective of Investors, FS Institutions
and Consumers. It provides in-depth insight into the key market issues and
opportunities.
Features and benefits
- Anticipate customer reaction to new products in each of the major European
markets.
- Identify new products to exploit, such Wrap accounts or Hedge Funds.
- Understand the affect of historical and cultural differences on product
choice.
- Forecast the major areas for product growth in the context of regulatory
and legal constraints.
Highlights
The Spanish retail savings and investments market is the smallest among the
five countries analyzed with € 708,877 million in 2002, however it
experienced the highest compound annual growth of 5.3% between 1998 and 2002.
Mutual funds lost their market share in the Spanish savings and investments
market by 8.9% between 1998 and 2002.
€ 146bn was invested in 2,321 capital protected funds across Europe as of
March 2003. France and Spain hold the majority of funds as the two leading
fund markets for capital protected funds. The largest market for capital
protected funds in Europe is France with € 48.7bn invested in these funds
as of March 2003.
It is strongly believed that those wealth managers who do not acknowledge the
trend towards these investments and incorporate them into their product
ranges, will lack a competitive edge in the future European wealth management
market. The German and UK capital protected funds markets will grow at fairly
rapid rates from their current low base.
Your key questions answered
- Are consumers choosing risk free deposits in preference to other products?
How will changes in European interest rates affect this?
- Why has the growth in Mutual Funds slowed? Has the stock market been to
blame, if so, will the markets recover? What investments are replacing them?
- Alternative Investments, which type do Wealth Managers favour, and why?
Can they help you repair damaged portfolios?
- Wrap accounts have been popular in the US and Australia. Will they offer a
new source of revenue in Europe, or will regulatory issues stop this?
- Under current market conditions Capital Protected Products are thought to
offer real growth potential. Why?
