Market commentary by expert
The development of the private healthcare sector has been curtailed in all of
the six countries analysed in the report. In the past two years investors
avoided spending on new ventures in the sector because of the economic
downturn. However, the crisis has just as much hit the public sector as
budgets shrank over the two years, leading to a deteriorating situation in the
public healthcare sector (underfunding deepened owing to cost-containment
policies, poor infrastructure, underpaid staff). As a consequence more
patients are opting for services in private healthcare facilities.
