“The crisis strongly affected the clothing and footwear business in Poland. The weakening of the Polish zloty translated into higher purchasing costs and increased rental fees at shopping centres. The situation was further aggravated by lower number of customers and, in turn, lower sales. As a consequence, many companies faced serious financial problems, and some had to go bankrupt. Smaller players are slightly better off - after growing slowly but steadily in the previous years, they can now use their resources to open new stores, even at attractive locations which were not easy to obtain so far. This year is expected to be more favourable, although the long winter at the beginning was not very promising.” Patrycja Nalepa, Senior retail market analyst.
