Abstract

Report Description

The 4th edition of the report provides an up-to-date, in-depth analysis and description of the Romanian construction market. Beginning from a general but comprehensive overview of the macroeconomic situation in Romania, in the following sections the report covers major construction segments: civil engineering, non-residential construction and residential construction, and present profiles of top market players.

Development forecasts for 2010-2012 of the Romanian construction market as a whole, as well as individual segments, based on reliable market data, provide an additional value to the report.

The report comprises the following sections:

  • Macroeconomic overview
  • Construction industry overview
  • Civil engineering construction
  • Non-residential construction
  • Residential construction
  • Profiles of the largest companies

This report is an invaluable resource for any company active in or considering entry to the construction industry in Romania.

Word from the author

“Romania' s construction industry was the strongest hit in Central Europe by the global downturn in 2009, having contracted by 15.1% after the steep growth figures of 33.6% and 26% in 2007 and 2008 respectively. One of the reasons for the poor performance of Romanian construction last year was that the overall economic deterioration was coupled with a continuous political crisis, which resulted in virtually no progress in infrastructure development, in spite of massive EU funds available. Therefore, unlike in other countries in the region where civil engineering served to somewhat counterbalance the depressed construction of buildings, in Romania a sharp decrease of over 12% was noted also in infrastructure construction. While in the first half of 2010 no improvement on the market is expected, builders hope that towards the end of the year the new government will launch several large projects, which will eventually be an impulse for the recovery of the entire sector.” Robert Obetkon, Senior Construction Market Analyst.
