In this 9th Edition, NSR maintains the improved segmentation of the applications served with commercial satellite capacity introduced in the prior edition of this study. On the video side of the business, NSR retains its video distribution, DTH, and video contribution & OUTV forecasts that have been the core of this study since its first edition.

On the data side of the business, NSR feels that the legacy telephony & carrier, enterprise data, broadband satellite access, commercial mobility, and government/military services application segments continue to be the best representation of the critical demand trends in the industry. Global Information, Inc.開始銷售Northern Sky Research, LLC所發行的報告書「Global Assessment of Satellite Supply and Demand, 9th Edition (全球商業衛星市場上供需情形的評估:第8版)」

根據該報告顯示,商用衛星的經營者,從2010年開始到2011年之間容量租賃的收益擴大到6億3500萬美元,由於行動和其他高價值服務新市場的積極進攻,今後收益將持續擴大。

NSR的資深分析師也是本報告書的著者Patrick•M•French先生敘述如下。「Ku頻段的市場預計今後10年將成為商用衛星市場成長的推動力。到2021年為止Ku波段整體將達到43億美元的淨收益,其中單單DTH(direct-to-home)TV市場達到14億美元。固體Ku波段的收益中影像發佈和企業資料,商用行動,政府/軍事產業等也將增加。」
