109 payloads were carried by 74 launch missions worldwide over the past 12
months, down from 2009 by 6.5%. These launches were largely into the "truly
steady" Geostationary Earth Orbit (37.5%) and "relatively fickle" Low Earth
Orbit (40%) although MEO, HEO, SSO and others also saw at least a couple of
launches last year. The number of payloads took a dip compared to the
four-year average of 115 keeping in line with the downward cycle that the
satellite industry is currently witnessing.
