Abstract

The US electrophysiology (EP) mapping and ablation device market is experiencing strong growth, primarily due to the increase in atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation procedure volumes. Growth in AF procedure volumes is in turn driven by changing demographics, increasing physician confidence and ability in performing AF procedures, the relative ineffectiveness of antiarrhythmic drugs in this indication, and increasing patient awareness of catheter ablation as a treatment option. Growth in AF procedure volumes supports revenue growth because the catheter ablation treatment of AF typically involves more advanced devices, such as loop and/or ultrasound diagnostic catheters, which are sold at a premium price. Nonetheless, the major limiters in this market, including alternative treatments and constrained health care budgets, are relatively stable factors that will persist throughout the forecast period. Device reprocessing will also hinder sales in the EP diagnostic catheter market specifically. Despite these limiting factors, the EP mapping and ablation device market will continue to grow with the release of premium-priced innovations that increase safety, decrease procedure times, and improve success rates.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
