Abstract

The US market for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and bronchoscopy devices will experience moderate growth through 2016, driven primarily by demographic factors and the adoption of technologically advanced products. The growing under-15 and elderly populations in the US will be the primary drivers of ENT and bronchoscopic procedures, which will in turn positively impact device use and thus market revenues. Additionally, the introduction of new premium-priced technology, and adoption of these products at the expense of lower-cost alternatives, will contribute to average selling price (ASP) growth. For example, premium-priced powered instruments and radiofrequency (RF) probes as well as resorbable nasal packing devices will be increasingly adopted at the expense of lower-cost hand instruments and removable nasal packing devices, respectively. Similarly, the strong adoption of video flexiblescopes, which are significantly more expensive than fiber flexiblescopes, will contribute to market expansion. Price competition in the mature markets such as ENT and bronchoscopic hand instruments and foreign body removal devices will, however, represent a significant limiter of the market. In addition, the growing presence of refurbished devices in the markets for rigidscopes will place downward pressure on ASPs and curtail revenues generated from these devices. Nevertheless, overall, the combination of growing procedure volumes and increased adoption of premium-priced devices will result in steady growth in the US ENT and bronchoscopy device market over the forecast period.
