The market for soft tissue repair devices in the US has exhibited steady growth through the past several years, primarily due to the introduction of new and innovative products. Though overall growth for these markets will stabilize over the forecast period, several areas will nevertheless undergo notable market expansion. For example, biologic meshes in the ventral hernia repair (VHR) and inguinal hernia repair (IHR) device markets continue to witness increased adoption and product differentiation. In addition, synthetic absorbable meshes are beginning to compete for sales within the hernia market by offering the benefits of both biologics and nonabsorbable synthetic meshes. In the vaginal sling and pelvic floor reconstruction (PFR) device markets, on the other hand, the recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) public health notification regarding adverse events associated with soft tissue repair devices for urogynecological indications will dampen growth prospects. This event has caused a notable drop in these markets, impacting overall market growth in the early part of the forecast period.
