A military flight simulator is a device that artificially re-creates aircraft flight and various aspects of the flight environment. Flight simulators are categorized into two types: FFS and FSTD. An FFS is a replica of a specific type or model and series of an aircraft cockpit, whereas an FSTD is a replica of flight controls and devices. There are four levels of FFS, i.e., levels A-D, with level D being the highest standard and providing acceleration in all six DOF. A flight simulator covers simulation in three areas, i.e., aircraft, environment, and cueing simulation.

The military aerospace simulation and training market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 2.32%. Flight simulation machines with motion simulators are hugely in demand for their ability to give a more real life type experience to pilots. Although FAA research claims that motion simulation does not make much of a difference, still the market demand for full flight simulator is higher.

L 3's Link Simulation and Training has been serving the simulation field for over 40 years. It has provided over 280 fixed wing simulators including simulators of F22, F16 and F/A-18. About 180 rotary-wing simulators to the U.S army, becoming the leading supplier to U.S army. In the unmanned section L-3's Link Simulation and Training has been the prime contractor for U.S Air Force Predator Mission Aircrew Training System program. L-3 Link is also in the process of installing 35 training devices for the Army' Flight School XXI, the largest helicopter simulator facility in the world. Additionally it also has flight simulation and training systems for C-17, E-3 Flight Crew, E-6B Aircrew, E-8C, P-3C, AVCATT and T-1A ground based training.

North America will remain be the leader in the market in the forecast period, though Asia-Pacific will grow significantly with the ongoing investments on military platforms. With the procurement and making of 5th generation aircraft with stealth capability, it is mandate for pilots to undergo such training.
