With ARPUs falling for almost all mobile operators and the rise in data consumption demanding ever more network capacity, many operators are becoming concerned about their ability to remain profitable in the longer term.

The steady improvement of data networks has encouraged the development of a range of free and low cost OTT services which are competing successfully with operators' own voice and text services, while at the same time revenues for the data transport on which they depend often remain suppressed as many users expect to pay little for what they see as a low value commodity service. T

his report is the first in a series, looking at the ARPU performance of a range of operators over a period five years, seeking to understand the reasons behind why some operators have done better at consistently sustaining ARPU in difficult market conditions.
