Next Generation Messaging over IMS
|

Abstract
Overview:
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is an emerging framework for development,
deployment, and operation of various applications for support of any-network,
any-device, and service provider usage. One of the most important legacy
applications on traditional circuit networks is messaging. IMS enables
messaging to transcend mobile via IP to become a pervasive service across
various media, applications, and networks.
This research evaluates the challenges faced in planning, deploying and
operating next generation messaging. It includes detailed solutions and
architecture over IMS network to provide messaging services with detailed call
flows for typical user scenarios. The report provides a SWOT analysis of
traditional carrier SMS vs. Web-based messaging and Apple's iMessage service.
It also includes key vendor/products analysis.
