Well stimulation is generally carried out to increase the productivity of the wells by enhancing the flow of hydrocarbons over and above the projected rate of flow in both green and brown wells. Well stimulation process can be carried out at any time over the lifespan of the well. Generally, well stimulation processes are carried out at the time of well completion in almost all new wells in order to provide the necessary stimulus to increase oil well output.

North America is the largest market for oilfield stimulation chemicals, globally. There has been rapid exploration of shale gas and oil reserves in North America. This has brought about significant changes in the specialty oilfield chemicals market in the recent past.
