Ceramic membranes are defined as a chemically, mechanically, and thermally stable material having higher permeance and low membrane resistance as compared to polymeric membranes. They have the capability to provide mild, highly selective filtration process with high flux and without phase transformation and possess specific functional attributes. Ceramic membranes are used for engineering applications owing to their inherent characteristics, such as heat resistance, high durability, bacteria resistance, back flushing and steam sterilization, and high abrasion resistance.
