Volumetric displays generate a true 3D image by illuminating points in a 3D space. These displays typically have a 360° field of view, and a user does not have to wear shutter glasses or head-trackers to view an image; this is one of the advantages of volumetric displays over other 3D displays. Volumetric displays are incorporated with different components such as projectors, motor & position sensors, and mirrors. These displays don't require much computation for data processing. Volumetric displays can be incorporated into a future computer system as a second monitor; 3D monitors could have applications in data visualization, clinical diagnosis, military training, movies, and games.
