The alternative fuel industry is moving to nonfood feedstocks and biogas, a 50:50 mixture of methane and carbon dioxide, from various sources has the potential to play into both the electricity and fuel markets. For this report, we built a detailed cost model to analyze biogas production cost from three sources: landfills, livestock farms, and wastewater treatment facilities. Additionally, we analyzed four commercially available biogas upgrading technologies: water scrubbing, amine scrubbing, pressure swing adsorption (PSA), and membrane separation. We then identified opportunities for existing biogas technologies and potential downstream opportunities that arise with technology improvements.
