Crop modification has been called everything from humanity's savior to the source of a coming apocalypse. From breeding to transgenics and everything in between, tech developers are hard at work developing crops with higher yields, better stress tolerance, and more attractive composition for conversion to fuels. While many are developing platforms with flexible applications, these developers are also hedging their bets, betting in the short term on the quicker payback of fuels and keeping an eye on the long game: the multi-trillion-dollar food industry.
